Well, the goal was only to update once a week... but then Kathie waits until she gets back to Lafayette to get a fever and a little chest pressure. She went to the hospital in Lafayette last night - she had fluid in her lungs (little side effect of the cancer in the liver).
Today the doctor came in to remove the fluid - 1 liter of it! The liquid did not show up on the last CT, so it has had to accumulate rather quickly. She did get released this afternoon... but she and Bob will be talking to Dr. DiMartino about preventative measures for the future concerning the liquid in the lungs. She's doing "okay." Her sister came in this evening, so Bob has some extra hands for help.
Keep the prayers coming... everyday is a little battle to be fought and we all need the strength to do it. Btw, if anyone out there is having a hard time coping, there is tons of support info from M.D. Anderson... type: M.D. Anderson Network to find out about some. As far as I can tell, you don't even have to be a family member... I could be wrong, but it's worth a look.

Mom,
we are thinking about you every minute. Our hearts are aching for all you have been through already and what you are facing ahead.
But once again you have shown us what a strong woman you are. And by strong I mean, "always seems to know she's right", "tells others what to do and how to do it because she's right" ; ) ...but at the same time being an enormously compassionate, giving person who would do anything for family, friend, or stranger in need. Your sense of humor and lifting spirits of those around you has also been a strong demonstration of your stregnth and faith. (You know that anyone who is not in a fraternity and can dole out high fives after passing gas has a good sense of humor and ability to laugh at themselves.) We look forward to many more high fives on other victories to come.

you did such an amazing job getting mom to one of the top cancer centers in the U.S., and for that we ALL thank you. We all have our own little files on what is going on with mom, but none compare to the mini-file cabinet you carry around. We decided if the thickness of our files proved how much we love mom, that you definitely love mom the most. Thanks for all you have tirelessly done on all our behalfs.

Small correction for those who read the comments (Lauren and Ed will correct blog next writing).
Kathie did not have fluid "in the lungs", she had fluid between the lining of the lungs and the lungs (therefore outside the lungs and pressing on them). She is home and doing well.
Lynette - thanks for the comment - I have broken my book into 2 books now-getting too big.
